Walking Between Worlds

Fiona Dove

My Story

My name derives from Scottish Gaelic and means 'bright black' or 'bright darkness' - which is also the translation of imbas forosnai - the poetic 'dark which enlightens' and brings inspiration to the bards.

I spent my childhood around animals - mostly horses - and still live amongst a menagerie of various creatures - horses, dogs, ferrets, chickens, geese, ducks, quail and rabbits, plus a cat who visits (I call her Boojum because she softly and silently vanishes away if she thinks I'm watching!) and the wildlife that surrounds my home, a smallholding in rural Aberdeenshire. I've always talked with animals, with trees and plants, and they've always listened and replied.

About My Course

I trained as a shaman with my good friend and mentor Elen Sentier nearly twenty years ago and have been a practicing shaman in the Old British Ways since then.  I'm a drum maker, crafting custom drums for clients worldwide, a healer, an Usui Reiki Master/Teacher and a Rune Master. I enjoy spending my time outside in the countryside with the animals in my life - see my blog for more.

I bring all these skills and experience into the courses I teach here, alongside Elen Sentier

I enjoy spending my time outside in the countryside with the animals in my life, particularly my small herd of horses - Abe, the grey shown above, the beautiful Arab mare Poppy and her daughter Dancer, and my dragon-in-therapy George, who is a Suffolk Punch and slowly recovering from a traumatic period in his young life.

All this ongside being a single parent and a carer for my elderly parents - my father died some years ago and my mother has advanced Alzheimer's.

It's a rare day when I don't see deer around my home, and indeed I live within the ancient Forest of Deer - just a couple of miles from Deer Abbey, where the beautiful illuminated Book of Deer was written in the 10th Century! The goddess Elen is all around me in the landscape here, from the dappled forest light to the standing stone circles.
